Regardt says that before filming The Gospel of Matthew, the Lord gave him a scripture. "...He was set above His companions, He was anointed with the oil of joy!" Hebrews 1:9. Regardt realized that he was to show Jesus as a man of joy! Nothing could be more joyous than the Savior, saving His lost children.

When it came to the pre-production of the The Gospel of Matthew, Regardt did all of his scripting, storyboarding, and casting on his knees, joined by his production designer, Bruce Rudnick, a remarkably talented brother-in-Christ. With Bruce at his side, Regardt sought the Lord in every creative decision, and I'm convinced what you see on-screen today is the direct result of those two in the many months before filming on their knees in that production office begging God to show them what to do and how to do it. There are several specific things about The Gospel of Matthew that just about everyone comments on as being a specal blessing to them.
